Obituary - ROBERT PETER ORNE

Robert (Bob) Peter Orne of Port St Lucie, Fa., brother-in-law to Wendy Silver, passed Saturday, April 8, 2023, after a brief illness and hospitalization. He was born Dec. 28, 1945, in New York City to the late Peter and Susan Orne of Flushing, N.Y.

Robert graduated from Flushing H.S. in Flushing, NY. He studied at Queens College and later attended graduate school at Northeastern University in Boston. Robert entered the Army on Sept.10,1968, and served two years as an electronics instructor. He was stationed in Ft. Monmouth, NJ.

Robert held the position of Data Processing director for the Dept. of General Services overseeing many agencies for the City of New York. He was in charge of payroll processing for city personnel, worked hard on the Interactive Voice System and provided automatic city-wide examinations to the Public. He also was the director for the Department of City Administrative Services. His career and family path took him from Flushing, Monsey, New City and then to Port St. Lucie, Fla., which he recently made home.

Robert was a gifted Bridge player and earned the privilege of being named a Life Master. He participated in many national tournaments up and down the East Coast including New York City, Philadelphia, Chicago, Boston, Orlando and Miami Beach. His passion for Bridge inspired him to collect and study approximately 300 antique books about Bridge.

Robert and his beautiful wife, Janis, were fortunate to have traveled through most of Europe, South America (Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay), Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Hawaii, Alaska as well as many National Parks in the U.S.

Robert had a passion for the theatre, especially musicals. He attended countless shows in New York City as well as London. He and Janis traveled last to London, where they spent a week enjoying many shows. He loved to work on puzzles, mainly those that had a math component. He was a member of a 3D-photography club and enjoyed creating 3D spectacle viewers. Astronomy was another favorite interest of his and therefore was a member of the Rockland Astronomy Club.

Robert was passionate about his involvement with the Hemophilia Foundation where he served on the Board. He helped the foundation to make strides in research, fundraising and advancement.

He is survived by his wife, Janis Orne, who he married on Nov. 3, 1973;

sisters, Ingrid (Mitch) Glanzrock of N.J., Karen (Lee) Rubinson of Florida; and was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Edward Orne.
