Jewish Academy of Orlando first graders completed their annual space unit with the Sun, Moon, and Stars Space Show where each student demonstrated his or her knowledge of the solar system through music, song, and dance. A Torah scroll is unlike any other holy book. One can't just sit at a computer and type the letters that make the books of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. The Pearls of the Pavilion luncheon on Feb. 22 treated some of the Jewish Pavilion's most generous supporters to a gracious afternoon social affair. As I-4 traffic became aggravatingly slow on a recent late Friday afternoon, Michelle Bilsky arrived at Cascade Heights Senior Living in Longwood a little breathless from her rush to make it on time from her job downtown at the Lutheran Towers senior complex to the 4 p.m. Jewish Pavilion Shabbat service. Jewish Academy of Orlando second-graders raised $961 in a Fun Run to benefit a Habitat for Humanity house. The students later visited the house and presented the check to the organization. The annual program at JAO begins with a cross-curricular study of economics. Students learn about the three basic human needs: food, clothing, and shelter, while also learning the differences between a want and a need.
