Obituary - NAHOUM GIVONI

 


Nahoum Givoni of Windermere, Fla., died on Monday, May 13, 2013. He was 80 years old.

A survivor of the Shoah, he was born in Romania on Feb. 9, 1933 to the late David Sacagiu and Chaya Birenbaum Sacagiu. At 13 years of age he escaped from Romania and ran for two years eventually making his way to Marseilles, France, where he boarded a ship for what was then Palestine. A member of the Israeli Air Force, he was a veteran of the War for Independence, the 1956 Sinai Campaign, the Six Day War and the Yom Kippur War in 1973. In Israel, on Sept. 19, 1962, he married his wife of more than 40 years, the former Jacqueline Ester, who survives him. Mr. Givoni worked as a director for a wood furniture manufacturer. In 1998, they moved to the Orlando area to be closer to their son and his family.

In addition to his wife, Nahoum Givoni is survived by his son, Ran (Sophie) Sacagiu of Winter Garden; his daughters Ronit (Yossi) Golan of Israel and Mali Assaf of Winter Garden; and three grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother and sister in Israel.


Graveside funeral services were held at Bet Chaim Cemetery, Gotha, with Rabbi Yosef Konikov officiating.

Memorial contributions in honor of Nahoum Givoni may be made to Chabad of South Orlando.
