Walter M. Danziger passed away on Nov. 6, 2016, at the Emory L. Bennett State Veteran’s Nursing Home in Daytona Beach, Fla., at the age of 92. He was born on March 23, 1924, in Berlin-Koepenick, Germany, to Georg and Charlotte Danziger. Walter’s bar mitzvah in Berlin-Koepenick was the last one in that community’s synagogue (which his grandfather had helped to build) before it was destroyed on Kristallnacht. Paul Goldberg, age 80, of Longwood, passed away on Friday, Nov. 18, 2016, at Florida Hospital—Altamonte. Mr. Goldberg, a native of Brooklyn, New York, was born on Aug. 7, 1936, to the late Harry and Mildred Fishman Goldberg. (JTA)-Ruth Gruber, an American journalist who escorted 1,000 Jewish Holocaust refugees from Europe to the United States, has died. She was 105. Gruber died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016, in her Manhattan home, The Washington Post reported. She was known for her 1944 journey from Italy to New York aboard a ship carrying refugees from concentration camps.
