On Wednesday, Nov. 30, Jewish high school students from all over metro Orlando gathered in Nate's Shul in Longwood for an evening of volunteering to help Israeli children with special needs. The teens were treated to a delicious Kosher Israeli dinner thanks to Eric Kessous of Kosher Gourmet in Kissimee. Celebrate Shabbat with the synagogue that feels like family. The Shabbat evening service led by Rabbi Karen Allen is on Friday, Dec. 9th at 7 p.m. The service will honor the new members who have joined the congregation during 2016. Nearly 70 people took part in a Thanksgiving mitzvah on Nov. 20 as part of the Second Annual Shalom Families/PJ Library Family Mitzvah Day at Build-A-Bear in Altamonte Springs. Shalom Families is a program of the Jewish Federation of Greater Orlando. Each of the 18 families who participated in the event donated at least one bear and made a card for a child at Nemours Children's Hospital in Lake Nona. On a recent Friday night, love and warmth permeated throughout the room. The Jewish Pavilion partnered up for an intergenerational Shabbat dinner with Horizon Bay Lake Orienta and Our Jewish Orlando. A handful of young Jewish professionals came to share a Shabbat with the residents at Horizon Bay on Boston Avenue. This month, Jewish Academy of Orlando kindergarten students were living, breathing and even dreaming about Thanksgiving. The students were taken back in time to the days of the pilgrims. More than 40 Central Florida teens, 16 educators and youth directors, and five Jewish community leaders gathered at Congregation of Reform Judaism on election eve for "Decision 2016: Your Voice, Your Vote, Making a Difference." The Roth Family Jewish Community Center of Greater Orlando is pleased to announce that Robby Etzkin has been promoted to executive director and agreed to a new contract to fulfill that role. Etzkin's promotion comes on the heels of the hiring of Keith Dvorchik, who began on Oct. 5 as The Roth Family JCC's chief executive officer, a new position for the organization. First it was a book, written by local award-winning author Yvonne David in 2005. It won an honorable mention in the Independent Publisher Book Awards a year after publication, and was then adapted for the stage in the form of a concert reading by award-winning playwright Ellen W. Kaplan and performed in New York City at the Mesaper Theatre.
